I''ve been instructing Master Gardeners on Entomolgy for several years and I always include the big three morphologic differences between Diptera and Hymenoptera: one pair of wings, big eyes, short antennae. I will now include the Syrphidae abdominal H. Thank you for sharing your amazing photos and continuing my education!

Great distinctions, and importantly helpful. BUT does this fly also provide pollination services?

Great article! Love the close up of the drone flies HUGE eyes. Good to know about the "H" marking to help ID drone flies.
